Padel Mexicano: rules, scoring and how to organize one

Mexicano keeps every match tight. Instead of fixed schedules or random draws, each round is generated from the live standings, so after a round or two you are always playing people at your level.

How the format works

The first round is drawn randomly. From then on, the standings decide everything: the top four players meet on court one, the next four on court two, and so on down the ladder. Within each court group, a common arrangement pairs the 1st and 4th ranked players against the 2nd and 3rd, balancing the teams so the match stays close.

Like Americano, matches are played to a fixed total of points (16, 21, 24 or 32), every player banks the points their team wins, and the individual with the biggest total at the end takes the tournament. Strong starts push you up the courts; a rough round sends you down to fight your way back.

Americano or Mexicano?

• Pick Americano for social mixing: everyone plays with everyone, regardless of level. Read the Americano guide.
• Pick Mexicano when levels vary widely and you want even matches from first round to last. The ladder sorts players automatically.

What you need

• Players: 4 or more. Extra players sit out in fair rotation, optionally earning compensation points so their ranking survives the rest.
• Courts: one per 4 players keeps everyone busy; fewer courts means rotating sit-outs.
• A way to track standings between rounds. The format depends on it, which is why pen-and-paper Mexicanos stall.

Team Mexicano

Prefer fixed pairs? Run a Team Mexicano: pairs stay together, the ladder ranks teams by combined points, and each round the closest-ranked teams face off (1st versus 2nd, 3rd versus 4th, and so on).
